Q. Tell us a little about yourself in just two sentences and include a picture of yourself.

I am married to the man of my dreams and I have three amazing children. I feel so lucky and so blessed to have this life, I mean how many people do you know that love their job??

Q. What do you shoot with and what is your favorite lens and why?

Nikon D700, 50mm 1.4 I shoot newborns and a nifty fifty is perfect!!

Q. When did you start shooting for fun and then move to shooting professionally?

I have always shot for fun, with my p&s and I thought it was awesome putting my daughter in front of flowers in the neighbors yard, with a p&s and used flash…LOL, yes I was blind and that was 10 years ago LOL. I started my business in 2009.

Q. Are you formally taught or self taught?

BOTH! I learned a lot the hard way through making mistakes. I have attended workshops as well, which was amazing and I would recommend it to anyone considering it!!

Q. What is your specialty and how did you decide to specialize in that area of photography?

We have all heard that you “can’t” specialize in everything, you can’t be the best at everything! I feel my strong point is newborn photography and that is where my heart is! I could seriously photograph a newborn everyday!

Q. How many sessions are you shooting a month?

I shoot 8-12 sessions per month

Q. On average how long to do you spend editing each session and do you listen to music while editing or just enjoy the quiet?

About 2 or 3 hours…depends if I stay focused or get distracted and get sucked into Facebook. (You guys know what I am talking about! Hahaha!) At night I “watch” shows with my daughter while I edit.

Q. What is the best marketing tool that works for you or was a total waste of time? Do you advertise in print? Do you offer referral bonuses? If yes, please share a little.

A. Of course hands down Facebook! That and word of mouth. I do have a few canvas prints up at my personal OB office but only because she requested them I don’t advertise anywhere else. I do not currently have a referral program.

Q. What do you do to “stand out” from surrounding photographers that you’re competing with?

A. I try not to worry about anyone else, I have some amazing photographer friends local and non local. I just feel if I give a superior product and great service that is all I can do and it seems to be working:)

Q. What was your biggest mistake and how did you fix it?

A. I hate to say this is a mistake… but being too nice!! I wanted to be nice to everyone and to be everyone’s friend.. It got me no where fast! I was being taken advantage of. As my really good friends tells me, you have to run your business, you can’t let it run you.

Q. How did you find your style? Any advice to new photographers on how to find their own style?

A. It is hard to find your style! My motto is when you are taking a photo or when you are shopping for a prop, you need to stop and ask your self: Would I put this on my child? Would I hang this on my wall? If the answer is no you need to move on.

Q. Please share your favorite image and tell us what makes this your favorite?

A. Honestly this may be the hardest question of all!! I always have a new favorite image, every session I fall in love with something else. I photographed this little girl 2 weeks ago and her late grand dad was a Police Chief, he passed away of cancer and it breaks my heart he will never be able to enjoy this beautiful and perfect baby.

Q. Can you show us your shooting space? If you are shooting inside can you show a simple pull back shot or lots of images if you have a large studio. If you shoot on location please share an image of you favorite location.

A. I have a small shoot space but its perfect for my tiny clients:)

Q. Is there anything you would like to promote? Maybe a mentoring you offer or any side projects.

A. I do offer one on one newborn mentoring, stay tuned more more exciting adventures later this year:)
