Q. Tell us a little about yourself in just two sentences.

I am wife to a loving supporting husband,  an obsessed photographer, prop addict, tattoo lover and I have a funny/crazy side. I also have a facebook addiction.

Q. What do you shoot with and what is your favorite lens and why?

I shoot with a Canon 5DmkII, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.8 and 20mm 1.8.  My favorite lens would have to be my 50mm although I plan on getting the 35mm 1.4 this year and I’m sure that won’t leave my camera much.

Q. When did you start shooting for fun and then move to shooting professionally?

I have been behind a camera since I was 16years old. Right out of high school I started managing a retail studio for 6 years ( never again will I do that! )  One day I broke my foot and never went back. So I started messing around with my camera again. I portfolio built for a few years improving and learning ( although I am still learning)  I have been officially in business for almost 2 years and loving every minute of it. ( even the stressful times)

Q.  Are you formally taught or self taught?

I am self taught.

Q. What is your specialty and how did you decide to specialize in that area of photography?

I would say my specialty is Children, Newborns and Seniors.  Although I do families and engagements too.  I have always loved working with children I dont think I really picked it they picked me. Children have always loved me and I have been told I have the patients of a saint which works out great for newborns.

Q. How many sessions are you shooting a month?

About 10-20…  Just depends on mother nature here in Washington.

Q.  On average how long to do you spend editing each session and do you listen to music while editing or just enjoy the quiet?

I think I spend about 3-7 hours editing a session.  I haven’t timed myself lately and honestly I get distracted by facebook alot while editing. LOL  I always have slacker radio going while I am editing.

Q. What is the best marketing tool that works for you or was a total waste of time?  Do you advertise in print?  Do you offer referral bonuses?  If yes, please share a little.

My only advertising is Facebook, my blog and word of mouth.  I have never done any kind of print advertisement. When I was portfolio building I used Craigslist but found it wasn’t the best. I got more spam then sessions. I do not offer a referral bonus.  My work speaks for it self and my clients always spread the word for me.

Q. What do you do to “stand out” from surrounding photographers that you’re competing with?

I use a variety of props that alot of locals dont have. Shopping at thrift stores and Antique stores helps with that alot. I also work with alot of vendors who make unique pieces.

Q.What was your biggest mistake and how did you fix it?

My biggest mistake is over booking myself and not making time for my husband. I spend most of my time in my office editing if I am not outside shooting. So I had to slow down a bit and make time for him and my poor neglected house.  I had to learn to say No. Which is hard!  But it is better in the end.

Q. Please share your favorite image and tell us what makes this your favorite?

My favorite image right now is of a sweet newborn I photographed this month.   We took her outside and put her in a bucket. The lines of the tree framing the shot with the colors just make me fall in love.

Q. Can you show us your shooting space?  If you are shooting inside can you show a simple pull back shot or lots of images if you have a large studio.  If you shoot on location please share an image of you favorite location.

I am in the process of moving right now so I don’t have anything set up yet. I will have shooting space in my new house which is exciting! Currently I shoot 90% outdoors and set up in client homes for newborn sessions.

Q. Is there anything you would like to promote?  Maybe a mentoring you offer or any side projects.

I do offer mentoring for beginners who want to take there camera off of auto and learn to shoot in Manual.  I offer newborn 1 on 1 mentoring also.
Plus! I have a etsy site (currently on vacation mode while I move).   www.kamieoscreations.etsy.com

Q. Please share an image of your Prop stash!  This doesn’t have to be an organized space just an image showing off your addiction.

I don’t have a current one because they are packed up but I have a prop addiction for sure.

I love the variety of different styles, from vintage baby lace romper and hair accessory photos to bright colors and modern looking girl reading Fancy Nancy book. Yet all these photos are gorgeus and unique.

Have no enough money to buy a house? Don’t worry, just because that is achievable to receive the home loans to solve such problems. Hence take a short term loan to buy everything you want.
