If you are not familiar with Laura’s work you are missing out on daily posts of sweetness!  She has the some of the most stunning newborn work out there and she makes it look so easy.  All her images look so naturally posed and the little ones each look so cozy and just snuggled in.  I adore her work and can’t wait to host a workshop in 2012 in the DFW area!
Now on to the Q&As …

Q. Tell us a little about yourself in just two sentences.

I’m Laura, chocolate loving, children loving, baby photographer extraordinaire.  Married to my high school sweetheart and mama to two little ones.

Q. What do you shoot with and what is your favorite lens and why?

I shoot Nikon and my favorite lens is probably the 135mm – love the creaminess.

Q. When did you start shooting for fun and then move to shooting professionally?

Started shooting for fun back in high school and professionally in 07’.

Q. Are you formally taught or self taught?

Self Taught

Q. What is your specialty and how did you decide to specialize in that area of photography?

Newborns are my specialty. I kind of always knew I wanted to shoot newborns exclusively, they are what I love. There’s nothing like waking up and meeting a families new love.

Q. How many sessions are you shooting a month?

On average I shoot between 28-32 sessions a month.

Q. On average how long to do you spend editing each session and do you listen to music while editing or just enjoy the quiet?

Each editing session takes about two hours or so from start to finish IF (and that’s a big if) I sit down in complete silence with no interruptions. That rarely happens.

Q. What is the best marketing tool that works for you or was a total waste of time? Do you advertise in print? Do you offer referral bonuses? If yes, please share a little.

Best marketing for sure is word of mouth. Print ads, never had much luck with them.

Q. What do you do to “stand out” from surrounding photographers that you’re competing with?

I try to be very prompt with replies and just offer great customer service.

Q. What was your biggest mistake and how did you fix it?

Biggest mistake … I’m not the best when it comes to putting albums together. I always mess up the seams on the flush mounts. I usually have to buy two of them just in case.

Q. What is your favorite part of being a photographer?

It is a blessing to wake up in the morning and photograph a families new love.

Q. Please share your favorite image and tell us what makes this your favorite?

Hmmm….that is tough. My favorite image right now would be the most recent of my children. They love to be photographed, but they are my toughest crowd.

Q. Can you show us your shooting space?

I need to take one, the only one handy that I have is just of our mural.

Q. Is there anything you would like to share with us? Maybe mentoring you offer or any side projects.

We offer an All in One Baby and Business mentorship called Baby Business. Designed to master your craft in baby posing and the “how to” for gearing your business in that direction. One-on-one in our Atlanta studio and/or small group mentoring options are available. To read more about it, click HERE.

I absolutely love her work!!! I really liked reading the questions to get to know her on a more personal note. I love hearing what other photographers have to say. The picture of her own children is ADORABLE!! One proud momma for sure, which is why she makes such a great photographer of newborns! She knows the love and joy of being a mother which translates so well into photography of the special new additions to each family. *loved this*
